About the opportunity
We are looking for a Senior Java Backend Engineer to join our platform squad and help build scalable services that power our talent acquisition product. You will design and implement REST APIs, event-driven workflows, and integrations with third-party systems used by thousands of recruiters daily.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.
- Own API design, validation, error handling, and documentation for internal and external consumers.
- Model and optimize PostgreSQL schemas; write efficient queries and migrations.
- Implement asynchronous processing with Kafka (or similar) using reliable delivery patterns.
- Write unit, integration, and contract tests; maintain quality gates in CI/CD.
- Build and optimize Docker images; deploy and operate services on Kubernetes (EKS).
- Participate in code reviews, incident response, and on-call rotation.
- Collaborate with product, frontend, and platform engineers on system design and trade-offs.
Must-have skills
- 5+ years of professional Java development.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot (REST, validation, security basics, and testing).
- Proficiency in PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, and transactions).
- Solid understanding of microservices and distributed systems fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
- Experience with Kafka or similar message brokers (producers, consumers, idempotency).
- Experience with GitLab CI/CD or equivalent pipeline tools.
- Knowledge of automated testing using JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers, or similar frameworks.
Nice-to-have skills
- Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
- Familiarity with AWS services, such as S3, SQS/SNS, RDS, and EKS.
- Knowledge of event-driven architecture patterns, including Outbox, Saga, and CQRS.
- Experience with observability practices, including metrics, distributed tracing, and structured logging.
- Understanding of cursor-based pagination and best practices for public API versioning.
