Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain microservices using Java 17+ and Spring Boot 3.
  • Own API design, validation, error handling, and documentation for internal and external consumers.
  • Model and optimize PostgreSQL schemas; write efficient queries and migrations.
  • Implement asynchronous processing with Kafka (or similar) using reliable delivery patterns.
  • Write unit, integration, and contract tests; maintain quality gates in CI/CD.
  • Build and optimize Docker images; deploy and operate services on Kubernetes (EKS).
  • Participate in code reviews, incident response, and on-call rotation.
  • Collaborate with product, frontend, and platform engineers on system design and trade-offs.

Must-have skills

  • 5+ years of professional Java development.
  • Strong experience with Spring Boot (REST, validation, security basics, and testing).
  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL (schema design, indexing, and transactions).
  • Solid understanding of microservices and distributed systems fundamentals.
  • Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
  • Experience with Kafka or similar message brokers (producers, consumers, idempotency).
  • Experience with GitLab CI/CD or equivalent pipeline tools.
  • Knowledge of automated testing using JUnit, Mockito, Testcontainers, or similar frameworks.

Nice-to-have skills

  • Experience with Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Familiarity with AWS services, such as S3, SQS/SNS, RDS, and EKS.
  • Knowledge of event-driven architecture patterns, including Outbox, Saga, and CQRS.
  • Experience with observability practices, including metrics, distributed tracing, and structured logging.
  • Understanding of cursor-based pagination and best practices for public API versioning.
